It’s as Simple as ABG

Welcome to DAY ONE of our five-part reading plan to help you discover ancient habits for modern living that will transform your life. So let’s get started.

Matthew 5:38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

Imagine that you are on your way to catch the bus to see a family member who is ill in hospital. As you are walking towards the bus stop a policeman calls you over and tells you to pick up his bags and carry them for one mile in the opposite direction of the hospital. How would you feel?

This is what it was like for people in the time of Jesus. A Roman soldier could tell any Jew to carry his bags up to one mile. It was unfair, yet it was the law.

So what do you think Jesus told his followers to do? He told them to do more than what was expected of them, to go the extra mile. This would have been a very unusual thing to do. However, Jesus was teaching us the principle of the ‘extra mile’.

This powerful principle can be used in all areas of our lives, not just when we are made to do something that is difficult or uncomfortable. We can push ourselves to go the extra mile, to do more than what is expected of us and also from us, this will always give us the edge in life and business.

Game Changer

  1. Do you go the extra mile in life or do you simply do what is expected?

  2. Choose one area today in which you can go the extra mile.

  3. It’s as simple as ABG - Always Be Going the extra mile.

God help me to go the extra mile as I serve you, even when it does not seem possible.
